LUCENA CITY – A 55-year-old businessman was robbed and killed in this city on Thursday night, police said.

Acmad Mauna Punda was on his way home aboard his motorcycle when the suspect armed with a caliber .45-pistol shot him several times in Barangay (village) Cotta around 9:20 p.m., said Lucen police chief Supt. Romulo Albacea in a report.

After shooting the victim, police said, the suspect grabbed Punda’s bag containing P70,000 cash and fled. The victim died while being rushed to Quezon Medical Center.

Case investigator Police Officer 3 Nestor Lumanglas Jr. said robbery could be the most likely motive behind the killing of Punda.

He said Punda was a flea market (tiangge) organizer.   /kga
