Cop killed just after stepping out of Napolcom building

A policeman involved in a shooting incident that left a fellow officer dead in 2016 was killed by an unidentified gunman on Thursday, shortly after stepping out of the National Police Commission building in Makati City.

The Southern Police District said PO2 Teejay Valdez, who reported to the Marikina City Police, was shot thrice from behind and died from a gunshot wound in the head around 3 p.m. outside the Napolcom building on Jupiter Street.

Valdez was then walking to his car after attending a Napolcom hearing on an administrative case filed against him for grave misconduct.

The case stemmed from a March 2016 incident inside the Eastwood Station of the Quezon City Police District, where Valdez got into an altercation and later a gunfight with PO1 Rollsmith Ducusin.

Both of them were wounded, but Valdez also ended up shooting and killing another officer, SPO1 Arnel Fortez, who was only trying to stop the fight. —Matthew Reysio-Cruz
