Parañaque City police on Thursday arrested two Chinese nationals for allegedly detaining a Chinese businessman who owed them money.

Operatives of the Parañaque City Police arrested Xiong Tao and Liao Yifei for arbitrarily detaining Chou Yin Chin at the Sky Tower Hotel of Solaire Resort and Casino.

Southern Police District director Chief Supt. Tomas Apolinario Jr. said the 37-year-old businessman owed the suspects some P300,000.

Apolinario said the suspects were demanding payment from Chou’s family in Taiwan in exchange for his release, prompting his relatives to seek help from the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office (TECO).

Authorities from TECO then reported Chou’s detention to the Parañaque police, which rescued the victim at the hotel.

Policemen are still hunting down two more suspects in the incident.

The suspects are facing serious illegal detention charges. /ee
