AFTER being banned for almost two months, Mandaue PUJs are again allowed to ply downtown streets of Cebu City.
The Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) board has allowed PUJs plying the Mandaue-Manalili routes to resume their regular routes starting Monday.
Citom board chairman Sylvan Jakosalem said they arrived at the decision after a meeting with Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes last Monday and with affected PUJ drivers and operators last Wednesday.
However, Citom head Rafael Yap clarified that the development does not apply to jeepneys with Mandaue-Jones routes.
Yap said the concern of the drivers with route nos. 21B and 22B was still under discussion.
Mandaue-Manalili drivers have to comply with Citom requirements first before they can enter Manalili again.
They have to secure an ID card from Citom and should not use the road near Patria de Cebu as a terminal.
They are only allowed to load and unload passengers at designated terminals.
“It’s a matter to policy. Citom agreed to allow them to enter Cebu City again for a couple of reasons. One is the need to revisit the terminal ordinance,” said Yap.
The city’s traffic office prohibited PUJs with route number 21 and 22 A, D and G from entering Cebu City using the terminal ordinance as basis about two months ago.
They were only allowed up to the Cebu City Health Office along Gen. Maxilom Avenue and were required to use the North Consolidated Terminal near White Gold Department Store.
Yap said Citom has found the need to revisit the terminal ordinance, thus they allowed Mandaue-Manalili drivers to enter Cebu City again. /Chief of Reporters Doris C. Bongcac
