CITY OF CALAPAN – A seven-year-old boy died, after a grenade, which he thought was a toy, exploded in Bulalacao town, Oriental Mindoro noontime Tuesday, police said.

Supt. Imelda Tolentino, information officer of the Mimaropa Police Regional Office, said the boy’s father, Glen Osorio, 35, saw his son Glenrey carrying a metal object from a vacant lot and brought it to their home in Sitio Breeding in Barangay Nasucob around 12:15 p.m.

Thinking that the M203 grenade was a toy, Glenrey hammered it, causing it to explode.

Glenrey was rushed to the Bulalacao Community Hospital for treatment, but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician, Tolentino said. /atm
