Fewer job seekers went to this year’s Independence Day job fairs, primarily due to heavy monsoon rains.
As of 1 p.m. on Tuesday, the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) said 1,900 applicants had been hired on the spot in 21 job fair sites across the country.
The figure was lower than last year’s—2,000 hired on the spot. Dominique Tutay, Bureau of Local Employment director, said officials were already expecting fewer job seekers this year “because of the weather.”
Still, more than 16,600 applicants trooped to job fair sites, which offered up to 125,000 jobs.
Among the top jobs being offered were in construction and information technology businesses. —Jovic Yee
