Nat’l football body to hold program evaluation today

ALL committees of the Philippine Football Federation will be submitting their reports in the year’s last PFF Board of Governors (BOG) meeting set for today at the PFF headquarters in Metro Manila.

PFF committees and their heads are the grassroots and youth development headed by Richard Montayre (Cebu Football Association), competitions headed by Dick Emperado (Negros Oriental FA), finance led by Arturo Pacificador (Laguna FA), referees by Mike Batiles (Cagayan de Oro FA), membership by Juan Luis Carpio (Naga FA), media/press by Glenn Caritativo (Tarlac FA), technical by Charlie Cojuangco (Negros Occidental FA) and Carlo Rodriguez for the women’s committee.

Aside from evaluating all committees’ performance this year, the BOG will also tackle plans for next year which will focus mainly on the country’s grassroots development program.

Montayre will be presenting his budget proposal for the grassroots and youth development program which amounts to more than P80 million.

Montayre has allocated P11 million for year round competitions for the grassroots and youth teams, P30 million for the Center for Excellence (CFE) which will also include coaches’ grassroots trainings, P8 million for the national teams and P34 million for the grassroots program implementation including the administration and equipment.

The budget is based on the 33 FA members of the PFF.

In line with the grassroots development, Montayre said that they hope to start the CFE program in five areas next year.

Last October, Montayre had presented the grassroots program to all FAs where he tackled a partnership between the FAs, the DepEd and LGUs in introducing football at the grassroots level and creating youth teams in the barangays.

He also emphasized the importance of forming elite teams via the CFE program who will then see action via grassroots and youth competitions in the local, regional and national level.

Through these competitions, talents will be identified to form national youth teams who will be placed under a continuous program and eventually advanced into the senior men’s team or become an Azkal and represent the country in international competitions such as the FIFA World Cup.

After today’s BOG, the PFF congress and election will be held tomorrow. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
