MATALAM, North Cotabato – An enraged farmer on Tuesday shot dead his wife and another woman, whom he had suspected of being a lesbian, after finding them sleeping together inside the family home in Barangay Poblacion here.
Danilo Belgira was also shot dead by responding policemen when he traded shots with them, instead of yielding peacefully, said North Cotabato police spokesperson Supt. Bernard Tayong.
Tayong said Belgira arrived home around 6 a.m. from an undetermined area and found his wife, Evelyn and Miraluna Brigole sleeping.
Belgira was so enraged that after confronting his wife, he pulled a caliber .45 pistol and shot her and Brigole.
The two women died there and then.
Tayong said Eduardo Dela Torre and Vivien Banes, both relatives of Belgira, tried to pacify him but they too were shot and wounded.
When responding policemen arrived, Belgira also fired at them.
“They tried to convince him to surrender but he resisted violently and was also shot dead,” Tayong added.
“Jealousy prompted the man to shoot his wife and Brigole,” Tayong added.
