MANILA, Philippines — Guarantee letters issued by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program can now be used to pay for medical services and medicines worth over P10,000 in selected pharmacies.

DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao said that applicants would be assessed first by social workers, and if found qualified, they would be given guarantee letters. A guarantee letter ensures the DSWD will pay the provider for services sought by the bearer of the letter.

Covered by the program are medicines for various illnesses, including chronic diseases like cancer, subject to the availability and terms set by the pharmacy concerned, said Dumlao.

Among the pharmacies in Metro Manila that accept DSWD-issued guarantee letters are Globo Asiatico Enterprises Inc.; Onco Care Pharma Corp.; Urology Med Care Inc.; Complete Solution Pharmacy and General Merchandise; Haran Pharmaceutical Product Distribution Ltd. Co.; Keminfinity Inc.; Medinfinity Inc.; JCS Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; Interpharma Solutions Philippines Inc.; and pharmacies under the Drugstores Association of the Philippines.
