Marcos: No public teacher will retire as ‘Teacher 1’

No teacher will retire as "Teacher 1" rank under the expanded career progression system for the public school teachers, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced in his third State of the Nation Address (Sona).

MANILA, Philippines — No teacher will retire as “Teacher 1” rank under the expanded career progression system for the public school teachers, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced in his third State of the Nation Address (Sona).

“With this system in place, we will accelerate the career growth of teachers. Sa sistemang ito, wala nang public school teacher ang magre-retire na Teacher I lamang,” said Marcos.

Marcos also mentioned that funds have been allocated to implement the program to “promote professional development and career advancement within their ranks.”

The expanded system consists of two major career paths for teachers: teaching and school administrative tracks.

Teacher I rank is the entry-level rank of teachers in public schools.
