MANILA, Philippines — Around 125 families displaced by fire in Tondo, Manila, last June 16 received P20,000 each and food packs from the national government, a lawmaker said on Sunday.

In a statement, House Speaker Martin Romualdez said he facilitated the release of P2.5 million in cash assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to families in Barangay 58.

“Each family received P20,000 last Friday under the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program,” the House leader’s statement reads.

House Deputy Secretary General Sofonias Gabonada, Jr., Romualdez’s office, and Tingog Party-list leaders, among others, also prepared 400 food packs for fire victims from the lawmaker’s personal calamity funds.

“Furthermore, an additional allocation from the AICS program has been provided, ensuring each affected family will receive P20,000 to help them recover and rebuild,” Gabonada said.

He added that Romualdez and Tingog Party-list “will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that all necessary support is extended to the affected families.”
