Cayetano says DepEd needs ‘perfect replacement’ to solve problems

The next secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) should be a “perfect replacement” to solve the problems of the education sector, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano said.

MANILA, Philippines — The next secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) should be a “perfect replacement” to solve the problems of the education sector, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano said.

Cayetano likewise hoped that the transition will not affect the preparations for the opening of the upcoming school year.

“We have to pick the perfect replacement and we have to spend more money and wisely dito sa DepEd,” Cayetano said on Friday.

“I hope any politics that is happening will not affect the opening of the school year. We have very professional people in the DepEd,” he said.

The senator made the statements following the June 19 resignation of Vice President Sara Duterte as secretary of education and vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, which will be effective on July 19.

According to the Presidential Communications Office, Duterte did not give a reason for her resignation.

The PCO added that Duterte will continue to serve as the country’s vice president.
