Angara, Binay on alleged Marcos, Duterte rift: ‘Ceasefire muna’
MANILA, Philippines — Two senators on Thursday called on the camps of President Bongbong Marcos and former President Rodrigo Duterte to “cease” from its supposed rift.
At a press conference, Senator Sonny Angara said the alleged disagreement between Marcoses and Dutertes does not help the country.
“Parang nadi-distract tayo dito sa tit-for-tat between the two camps, ‘di ba? Imbes na mag-focus – palagay ko, mas mahalaga sa ating mga kababayan ang issues sa inflation, issues sa national security. We should learn from the past where politics should not always be at the forefront. Dapat, isantabi muna ang pulitika. Unahin natin ‘yung importante,” said Angara.
(It seems we are being distracted by this tit-for-tat between the two camps, right? I think the issue of inflation and national security are more important for our countrymen. We should learn from the past where politics should not always be at the forefront. We should set aside politics and prioritize important issues.)
“I don’t want to get into the merits or the actions of both camps, ‘di ba? Tama na muna (Let’s stop this), ceasefire muna. Let’s focus on Philippine interests rather than just more parochial interests,” he added.

In a separate briefing also on Wednesday, Senator Nancy Binay joined Angara in his call for a ceasefire.
“Oo naman. Syempre, I support ‘yung panawagan ni Sen. Sonny Angara na — maganda rin siguro na mas madalas pang nakikita na magkasama si Presidente [Marcos] at Vice President Sara [Duterte], ‘di ba? Para maipakita talaga sa mga supporters nila na tigilan niyo muna ang bangayan,” said Binay.
(Of course, I support Sen. Angara’s call. I think it would be better if people would see the president and the vice president together more often, right? It would send a message to their supporters to once and for all end the rift.)

Binay noted that there seems to be “no problem” between the president and vice president, adding that the “back and forth discussions” on the supposed rift occur between their supporters.
