Marcos: Boost salt, biodiesel, coconut industries to create more jobs

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Thursday that bolstering the salt, coconut, and biodiesel industries will help create more jobs.

Marcos met with the Private Sector Advisory Council-Agriculture Sector Group on Wednesday, and the group provided the President with its recommendations to bolster the agricultural sector.

“Sa pagpapaigting ng produksyon ng niyog, pagpapaunlad ng salt farming, at pagsulong sa biodiesel, hindi lamang natin binubuksan ang pintuan sa libu-libong trabaho kundi pinalalakas din natin ang ating posisyon sa pandaigdigang merkado,” Marcos said in an Instagram post.

(By strengthening coconut production, improving salt farming, and advancing biodiesel, we are not only opening the door to creating thousands of jobs but also strengthening our position in the global market.)

In March, Marcos signed the Philippine Salt Industry Development Act.

The Philippines’ salt industry has suffered since the passing of An Act for Salt Iodization Nationwide in 1995, which made it difficult for local farmers to produce salt.
