Imee Marcos on ‘ouster plot’ vs brother: ‘Wag masyadong praning

MANILA, Philippines — The alleged destabilization efforts against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. do not bother Senator Imee Marcos much, branding them as “old rumors.”

Instead of dwelling on unverified reports, the president’s older sister advised the public not to be “praning,” which translates to being paranoid or overthinking.

“Nababaduyan na ako sa mga chismis na ganyan. Lumang chismis na, no? Nakakasuya na,” said Marcos in an ambush interview.

(I find rumors like that lame. That’s an old rumor, right? It’s tiring.)

“Unless may tunay na katibayan e ‘wag tayong masyadong praning. Basta magtrabaho lang tayo at kung maaari ay ibalik ang usapin sa bigas. Unahin ang pagkain,” she added.

(Unless there’s legitimate proof, let us not be paranoid. Let’s work and as much as possible, let’s talk about rice. Let’s prioritize food.)

She later told reporters that she “does not have a clue” about the basis of the alleged destabilization plot.

“Wala akong nakikitang katibayan kundi ang kapraningan ng mga tao (I don’t see any proof apart from people’s paranoia). Is there any proof? Provide a proof and then let’s have a look at it,” she said.

The alleged recent “destabilization move” against the administration was recently exposed by former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.

According to him, active senior members of the country’s police force have been recruiting members to take part in the latest ouster plot against Marcos.

He said some of these police personnel have been identified to be “recruiting” since 2023.

The Philippine National Police already denied such a claim. In return, the agency urged Trillanes to “spare” the organization from issues, adding that they are solely focusing on their sworn mandate.
