MANILA, Philippines — “Walang (No) credible threat as of now.”

Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. made the statement on Wednesday to dismiss reports of an alleged destabilization plot against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s administration.

In a radio interview, Abalos said he was surprised to learn about the alleged destabilization move, adding that the President has the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) “solid” support.

“Solid po ang aming suporta at walang dapat ikabahala ang ating Pangulo,” said Abalos over Radyo 630.

(The President has our solid support. He needs not to worry.)

“Walang credible threat as of now. Talagang wala po ito. In fact, maski ako nagulat din sa pahayag na ito. Kung meron man, ito’y hindi papatulan. Ako na po mismo ang nagsasabi sa ating mga kababayan,” he added.

(There’s no credible threat as of now. There’s really none. Even I was surprised to learn about this. If there’s one, we won’t meddle with it. (I’m telling this to the people.)

Abalos made the pronouncement after former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV claimed that active senior members of the PNP have been recruiting members to participate in the latest ouster plot against Marcos.

Trillanes, in a media briefing on Tuesday, said some of these police personnel have been identified as “recruiting” since 2023.
