The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Saturday said it launched a hotline for complaints about traffic violations as well as online scams. Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, LTO chief, said the hotline will not only cater to phishing scams but also abusive and erring motorists on the roads. He said the “Aksyon on the Spot” hotline is aimed at ensuring quick response from the government against erring motorists in line with the instruction of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista. Through the hotline, road users are encouraged to send messages to 0929-2920865 if they cross paths with abusive or erring motorists on the road. Mendoza said LTO personnel will be distributing “Aksyon on the Spot” stickers to motorists, especially those who will be renewing the license registration of their respective motor vehicles. The purpose, he said, is to take advantage of the feature of the hotline, which also carries a QR code that will provide access to the complainants to formally lodge their complaints. “We guarantee our countrymen that any information that they will give us through the hotline shall be treated as confidential and protected by our Data Privacy law. We encourage the public to inform us of any abusive behavior on the road and we’ll take care of action,” he added. The LTO chief on Friday warned the public about online scammers engaged in tricking people to disclose private financial information by making them believe they have to pay fines from supposed traffic violations. —JEROME ANING
