Police captain dies in market shooting in Maguindanao del Norte

CAMP SK PENDATUN, Maguindanao Norte – A police officer died on the spot after he tried to disarm a man found with a pistol tucked in his waist in the Poblacion 2 public market in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 2.

Police Captain Roland Moralde, 44, from Caloocan City and assigned in the area as the administrative officer of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) of Police Regional Office of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), was doing marketing chores with other policemen when he saw a man having a gun, Major Christopher Cabugwang, Parang municipal police chief, told the Inquirer.

“He tried to approach the suspect but the latter resisted and opened fire,” said Cabugwang who identified the suspect as Mohiden Untal, legal age, a resident of Poblacion 2 in the said town.

After they traded bullets, both Moralde and the suspect sustained several gunshot wounds on their heads and bodies, causing their instantaneous death.

Recovered from the scene were several empty shells of the M16 rifle, caliber 9mm, caliber 45 and caliber 5.56 pistols, Cabugwang said.

He said manhunt is still ongoing against the five suspects who were with Untal and were believed to be his lookout..
