CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Vice Gov. Lilia “Nanay Baby” Pineda on Tuesday applied to transfer her voter’s registration from Lubao to this Pampanga capital, fueling reports she would run as mayor here in the 2025 local elections.

Gov. Dennis Pineda accompanied the vice governor at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office here at around 8:30 a.m., a Comelec source confirmed.

The governor confirmed that his mother had filed the application.

A Comelec official said no elected officials or journalists attended the event, unlike last April 16, when the vice governor’s husband, daughter and son-in-law applied to transfer their voter’s registration for her support in eventually running as mayor.

The vice governor personally appeared, as required by law.

The husband, businessman Rodolfo “Bong” Pineda, did not confirm her election plan but told reporters that San Fernando “needed cleaning up.” He gave no details.

The application was within the second quarter schedule of approval in July by the Comelec Election Registration Board and, thus, within the May 11, 2025 election, an election lawyer said when asked by the Inquirer.

The vice governor, 72, has served as mayor of Lubao from 1992 to 2001, and provincial board member from 2001 to 2007.

She has completed three terms as governor from 2010 to 2019, making her the first elected lady governor of Pampanga. She is currently on her second term as vice governor to her son.

Called “Nanay” by her constituent, her programs are focused on public health, education and social welfare. INQ
