SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — All classes on Thursday, April 11, in private and public schools in nearby San Marcelino town have been canceled due to the extreme heat.

In an announcement on Wednesday, Mayor Elmer Soria said the decision was made due to the anticipated “unconducive” learning environment for the students caused by the projected high heat index in the municipality, aggravated by the scheduled power interruption.

In this town, San Antonio Mayor Edzel Lonzanida also suspended classes in daycare centers and elementary and high schools in both public and private schools in the afternoon of Thursday and Friday.

This is to assure the safety of students and teachers given the onset of the dry season, when a dangerous level of heat index is expected, said Lonzanida.

The heat index in the capital town of Iba in this province peaked at 40 degrees Celsius in the past five days and was forecast to reach 40°C again on Thursday, which was slightly higher than 39 °C on Wednesday. INQ
