MANILA, Philippines — There will be no extension on the April 30 consolidation deadline set by the government for public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said on Wednesday.

Marcos earlier moved the consolidation deadline from December 31, 2023, to April 30, 2024.

(There will be no extension.)

This was his response to Pasang Masda president Robert “Ka Obet” Martin, who appealed to him during the town hall’s meeting question and answer portion not to extend the deadline anymore.

Consolidating PUV drivers and operators into one cooperative or corporation is the first step in the government’s PUV modernization program.

Under this program, jeepney drivers and operators must join or form cooperatives or cooperations to avail themselves of state subsidies for the purchase of modern jeepneys.
