MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology is lowering its tsunami alert after the eastern coastlines of the country passed the critical period of 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday without being battered by what were expected to be huge waves.
``The tsunami threat is over. We are finalizing our report so we can issue a bulletin announcing the cancellation of the tsunami alert, ?? Phivolcs Renato Solidum told Inquirer close to an hour after the tsunami was estimated to have reached Southern Luzon coasts.
Earlier, Solidum told the Inquirer that at 1:30 p.m., the Phivolcs did not monitor huge waves slamming the eastern coast lines. He said waves might have arrived but not in volumes earlier feared.
