MANILA, Philippines—(UPDATE) The Department of Justice has created a 14-member legal team to handle the Maguindanao massacre case.
In Department Order 935 issued November 25, the team was divided into two groups: one will handle the inquest and the preliminary investigation, while the other group will deal with any and all cases that will be filed in relation to the case.
Senior State Prosecutor Leo Dacera, who is also in General Santos City for the inquest, was assigned to head the team.
Aside from Dacera, members of the legal panel include Senior State Prosecutor Rosanne Balauag, State Prosecutors Anjanette Ortile, Rassendell Rene Gingoyon, Niven Canlapan, Aldrin Evangelista, Lamberto Fabros and Associate Prosecuting Attorney Xerxes Garcia.
The second group is composed of Prosecutor Rami Guiling of Maguindanao, Provincial Prosecutor Akilali Balt of Sharif Kabunsuan, City Prosecutors Al Calica from Kidapan City and Edilberto Jamora from General Santos, Assistant Provincial Prosecutor Felipe Vicente Velasco from Sarangani, Assistant City Prosecutor Elmer Lastimosa from General Santos City.
