MANILA, Philippines -- Police have filed criminal cases against Abu Sayyaf bandits who allegedly abducted and beheaded a school head teacher in Jolo, Sulu, Philippine National Police Director General Jesus Verzosa said Wednesday.
Charged with kidnapping for ransom at the Sulu prosecutor’s office were Basarun Aruk, Edimar Isnain, Abdulatip Jalmaani and several unnamed Abu Sayyaf members.
According to Verzosa, the accused were among the Al-Qaeda-linked bandits who seized Gabriel Canizares, 36, in Patikul town on October 19.
Last Monday, Canizares’ head was found dumped at a gasoline station in downtown Jolo.
Verzosa said operatives of the Regional Mobile Group and Special Action Force from other Sulu towns were “re-aligned” in Patikul to arrest the remaining Abu Sayyaf members involved in the gruesome murder of Canizares.
