BATANGAS CITY ? (UPDATE 2) A father and his son were declared missing after floods brought on by typhoon ?Santi? (international name: Mirinae) caused a bridge connecting two villages in this city to collapse Saturday morning, police said.
Superintendent Manuel Abu, Batangas City police chief, said Romulo Soriano, 40, his wife Malou, 39, a provincial health employee, and their three-year-old son, were in a white Honda Civic car (MLR 888) on their way home to Barangay (village) Sampaguita and were crossing the "Bridge of Promise" when it collapsed at around 7:30 a.m.
The bridge connects the villages of Kumintang Ibaba and Gulod Labac.
Malou was later found in Barangay Malitam and was brought to Saint Patrick Hospital for treatment.
Abu said search and rescue operations were being undertaken to recover the two other victims.
"The whole bridge fell and we are still looking for the car and its two other passengers," Abu said.
Meanwhile, as of 8 a.m. Saturday, there were 685 stranded passengers in Batangas Port; 720 in Calapan Port; and 90 in Roxas Port.
