MANILA, Philippines -- Malacañang confirmed on Thursday that actor Edu Manzano has resigned as chair of the Optical Media Board.
"Yes, he has submitted his resignation. The Palace is now deliberating on his replacement,'' deputy presidential spokesman Anthony Golez said at a news briefing.
Manzano's term expired in March 2007, and he has been serving in a hold-over capacity since then, Golez said.
"He must attend to personal tasks. That includes, among others, his campaign against child pornography, and he's also considering avenues of public service,'' Golez said when asked about reasons for Manzano?s resignation.
After signing the Optical Media Act in February 2004, President Macapagal-Arroyo appointed Manzano as chair of the OMB. Manzano headed OMB's predecessor, the Video Regulatory Board.
The board was created to regulate the production of all optical discs.
