MANILA, Philippines -- A suspected surveillance gadget was found Wednesday night at St. Scholastica’s College (SSC) in Manila, where Senate witness Rodolfo Noel “Jun” Lozada Jr. is appearing at a forum.
The device was located behind a tarpaulin printed with police contact numbers which was reportedly put up by uniformed policemen on Wednesday.
SSC safety officer Vivian Manila said their information technology personnel inspected the gadget and described it as a “device for monitoring communications.”
Lozada, key witness in the Senate inquiry into the scandal-tainted national broadband network (NBN) deal, is at the school’s St. Cecilia’s Hall for a forum with SSC students.
Earlier, a surveillance camera was also set up outside De La Salle Greenhills in Mandaluyong City, where Lozada and his family have been seeking shelter.
Police have admitted setting up the La Salle camera but maintain it is meant to monitor traffic and not the comings and goings at the school.
