Pope Francis took a high-speed train Friday to South Korea’s central city of Daejeon to meet with Catholic youths from across Asia gathered for the Asian version of World Youth Day.

Covering Pope John Paul II in a time of pagers, analog

WHEN JOHN PAUL II LAST WALKED OUR LAND Pinoys celebrated him to the soundtrack of “Tell the World of His Love.” For 5 straight days in January 1995, the Inquirer covered his second visit to the Philippines, publishing stories and pictures written and taken by a dedicated band of nearly all of its reporters and photographers. Filipinos got to know him quite well and he had us all in the palm of his hand.

Just a month after turning 9, the Philippine Daily Inquirer moved to its spanking new building in Makati City and prepared to embark on an extensive coverage of a local event of international magnitude. I was dead set on being part of it.
