Aurora economic zone a threat to people’s livelihood, say farmers, fishers

Indigenous people, farmers and fisherfolk have turned to the Commission on Human Rights to get their voices heard in their struggle against the Aurora Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport (APECO) project, which they said has been threatening to displace them, remove their sources of livelihood and disrupt their peaceful lives.

SC asked to strike down laws creating Aurora special economic zone

Several groups of farmers, fishermen, indigenous people and residents of Casiguran, Aurora, petitioned the Supreme Court on Wednesday to declare as unconstitutional the two laws which created a special economic zone in their province.

Urban planner Felino Palafox took on the Angaras of Aurora province on Tuesday, filing a criminal complaint against Sen. Edgardo Angara for allegedly having a pecuniary interest in the Aurora Pacific Ecozone and Freeport Authority (Apeco) project and for pushing for its development despite concerns about the project site.
