Semirara Island residents oppose relocation

Hundreds of residents on Semirara Island in Antique province are opposing their relocation by the municipal government of Caluya, according to the Commission on Human Rights (CHR).

Miner Adrian Cilmar is in a dilemma: Will he go back to work or not? Cilmar was still contemplating after surviving the massive collapse of a wall portion in the open mine pit that killed five of his coworkers at Semirara Mining Corp. (SMC) on Semirara Island in Antique. Five others remained missing.

More bodies found in Semirara landslide

The bodies of a still undetermined number of miners trapped when a mining pit in Antique collapsed Wednesday have been found, but they have yet to be retrieved after operations were halted because of the stench, police said.
