The Commission on Elections (Comelec) and other government offices are exerting their best effort to have power restored, at least for Election Day, in nine of 14 villages of Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija, the town’s election official said on Sunday.

Pantabangan town, which hosts one of the biggest dams in the country and the hydroelectric electric firm that supplies power to the Luzon power grid, has been suffering from a power outage since March 7 after its power supplier cut off the local distributor from its system due to mounting debts.
As Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija, endured a town-wide power outage for the second day on Tuesday, residents tried to find ways to cope with the problem.
Six of the 10 councilors of Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija, have questioned what they described as a takeover of the Pantabangan Municipal Electric System (Pames) by a private firm.
Bishop Roberto Mallari of the Diocese of San Jose vowed to look into the “whole picture” on the complaint of a group of residents, including the town’s vice mayor, against the town’s parish priest who has been leading protests against alleged anomalies in the municipal government.

About 500 people in Pantabangan town, many of them relatives and supporters of employees of the town government, staged a protest rally on Monday to press for payment of the salaries and other benefits of the government workers.
Despite being host to a hydropower dam, Pantabangan town has been suffering from a power blackout for three days now after First Gen Hydro Power Corp. (FGHPC) cut its supply on Monday due to the town government’s failure to pay P80 million in power bills since 2007.
