Conservationists mount signature drive vs coal-fired power plant in Palawan

Conservation groups have mounted a signature campaign to stop a planned construction of a coal-fired power facility beside Rasa Island in southern Palawan, which is considered as the last remaining habitat of the critically endangered Palawan Cockatoo.

Coal plant OKd amid opposition

The plan to build a 15-megawatt coal-fired power plant adjacent to the protected island of Rasa off the town of Narra, home to a critically endangered bird species, got the nod on Friday from the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD), overriding the opposition mounted by conservationists.
