Lanterns to be lit to bring cheer amid storm gloom

Eleven giant lanterns competing in an 81-year-old festival in this Pampanga capital on Saturday will light up to rally spectators to share the spirit of Christmas with victims of Typhoon “Pablo” in Mindanao.

Excitement grips Pampanga city over giant lantern fest

Ten Christmas lanterns, each 20 feet in diameter and fitted with 4,000 to 8,000 bulbs, are vying to be the most colorful modern-day replica of the Star of Bethlehem in this city’s Giant Lantern Festival on Dec. 17.
