Lebanese army agrees to 24-hour truce in town

The Lebanese army agreed to a 24-hour cease-fire in a border town held by Islamic extremists from Syria Tuesday to allow for negotiations for the release of captive soldiers and evacuate casualties, a senior Lebanese security official said.

Obama blames ‘terrorists’ for Algeria hostage deaths

US President Barack Obama said Saturday that blame for deaths stemming from a hostage crisis in Algeria lay with the “terrorists” who had earlier taken foreigners captive at a remote gas plant.
