After almost a year of controversy, a government-initiated 18-hole golf course project has been granted an environmental compliance certificate (ECC) by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
The hauling of hundreds of tons of black sand from a village on the coast of Lingayen Gulf, which coincided with a provincial government project to build a golf course in the area, came under protest from villagers who demanded a stop to the sand extraction.
A P500 million investment for a golf course and 5-star resort is expected to bring in more Korean retirees and tourists in Medellin town, northern Cebu—which is already enjoying a 100 per week arrival from its existing golf course dubbed as the “Korean village.”
