MANILA, Philippines -- Two suspected drug peddlers were killed in a shootout with policemen who raided their alleged hideout in Tondo, Manila, Thursday afternoon.
Superintendent Ernesto Tendero, chief of the Manila Police District Station 2, identified the fatalities as Reiner Lloyd Anere and one alias Nongnong.
Police said they were armed with a search warrant when they swooped down on the suspects' house on Quiricada Street, Tondo around 4 p.m.
Police reported that the suspects, upon seeing the lawmen, fired shots at them, prompting them to retaliate, killing the two in the process.
Tendero said that before the shootout, they have been receiving numerous complaints about the brazen sale of illegal drugs by the suspects in the area.
Seized from the suspects were sachets containing substances believed to be illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia, police said.
