BACOLOD CITY, Philippines?Police rescued a 26-year-old businessman who was abducted in Bago City in Negros Occidental on March 5, authorities said Thursday.
Chief Insp. Jefferson Descallar, spokesperson of the Negros Occidental police, said Jordan Chua was rescued 2 a.m. of March 10 in Toledo City, Cebu.
The regional police office said Chua?s abductors had fled before police came, leaving their captive behind.
It wasn?t known if ransom was paid by Chua?s family, engaged in commercial fishing in Zamboanga City.
Chua was abducted while biking with three other companions in Purok Michelle, Barangay Dulao in Bago City by four unidentified gunmen in a silver gray Toyota Grandia with no license plate.
His companion, Joel Arroyo [no relation to First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo], 41, was shot in the chest and is still confined at the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center. The two other bikers were unharmed.
A police official, who was part of the team that rescued Chua, said Chua has been reunited with his family.
The official talked on condition of anonymity as he wasn?t authorized to discuss details of Chua?s rescue.
The police source, however, refused to provide more details.
Some of the gunmen who snatched Chua are being hunted as of late Thursday afternoon.
The suspects are still in the area covered by the Central Visayas police and would be captured soon.
Toledo City is on the western side of Cebu facing the Tañon Strait and across San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
The Inquirer got in touch with some police officers in the regional PNP office but they refused to comment.
There were reports that the abductors demanded P20 million to P50 million in ransom from the Chua family in exchange for Chua?s freedom but these remained unconfirmed.
