CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The fireworks display for the opening of a basketball tournament here turned into mayhem when balls of exploding pyrotechnic products fell on two vehicles loaded with other fireworks, causing explosions that also burned the rooftop of a government building, a local official said.
At least 20 people among more than 1,000 spectators were also hurt in the stampede that ensued, according to city administrator Ferdinand Caylao who witnessed the 8:10 p.m. incident Friday.
A man was brought to a hospital for a hand wound.
