NEW YORK?One of the pilots of doomed Continental Flight 3407 showed no signs of distress in the seconds before the plane plunged into a house near Buffalo, New York, killing 49.
It is not always clear from the recording, published by The Buffalo News, who is speaking.
The tape begins with one of the pilots following directions from the tower.
"Left heading 310 Colgan 3407," she said before going silent.
"Colgan 3407, approach," the controller called.
"Colgan 3407, Buffalo," another controller called.
"Colgan 3407, approach," a controller repeated.
"Delta 1998, look off to your right side about five miles for a Dash 8, should be about 2,300. Do you see anything there?" the controller asked.
"Negative Delta 1998," the Delta pilot responds, adding that he also cannot see the plane on his onboard radar.
"Colgan 3407, Buffalo," the controller calls again.
After talking to the other planes, the controller calls for the plane one more time before he asks for someone to call police.
"Colgan 3407, Buffalo tower, how do you hear?"
"There's some ground communication, you need to talk to someone on the at least five miles northeast (inaudible) possibly Clarence, that area right in there, Akron area, either state police or sheriff's department need to find out if anything's on the ground. This aircraft was five miles out and now all of the sudden we have no response from that aircraft."
"All I can tell you is there was an aircraft over the marker and we're not talking to him now."
"(Inaudible) I'll have to get right back to you sir, apparently we have an emergency.
"All aircraft on this frequency, we did have a Dash-8 that didn't make the airport."
