Lack of convention facilities hounds city
The city faces an uphill climb in its bid to become Mindanao’s convention capital because of lack of facilities, according to Sonia Garcia, director of the Department of Tourism for Southern Mindanao.
“We don’t have the number of rooms to cater to big corporations, which come in large groups. That’s a reality,” Garcia said.
There are only 1,800 DOT-accredited rooms in the city and it lacked tourism-accredited buses that could cater to 200 passengers, which big corporations require when they hold conventions, she added. Judy Quiros, Inquirer Mindanao

Woman, niece stabbed dead
An 84-year-old woman and her niece were stabbed to death inside their house by still unidentified perpetrators in Barangay Matti.
Police said the bodies of Melitonia Albarracin and her niece, Teresita, 52, were found inside their house by another relative on Tuesday.
Ching Damule, a daughter of Melitonia, told the Inquirer that robbery could not be the motive behind the death of her mother and cousin, as the police suspected, because nothing was taken from the house. Orlando B. Dinoy, Inquirer Mindanao
