CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—Sans fanfare, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Sunday went to Nueva Ecija to visit the family of the man who was killed after he was hit by an Army truck that was part of the Presidential Security Group contingent during the President’s visit to the province on Sept. 12.
She visited for 50 minutes with the widow and two children of Leopoldo Odulio.
“Kung maibabalik ko lang ang buhay ng asawa niyo, gagawin ko (If I could bring your husband back, I would do it),” San Isidro Mayor Sonia Lorenzo quoted Ms Arroyo as telling Maximina Odulio, the widow.
An Army truck driven by Staff Sgt. Joel Sumahit lost its brakes as it headed for Jaen town, hitting the motorcycle on which Odulio and a fellow sales agent, Ronel Tecson, were riding. Tecson survived.
Lorenzo said the President gave Maximina money to start a small business. Asked how much it was, the mayor said: “Malaki (It was big).” Tonette Orejas, Inquirer Central Luzon
