ROXAS CITY ? The provincial board is asking President Macapagal-Arroyo to help fund the construction of a river control structure that can stop soil erosion, which is threatening to destroy a school building and houses in Cuartero town.
The resolution, authored by Board Member Baden F. Cantiller and passed by the board on Thursday, requested the President to save the Cuartero National High School in Poblacion Ilawod, Cuartero, from impending destruction due to the continued soil erosion on the banks of Panay River.
Cantiller said about 10 classrooms would be destroyed and 30 families would be dislocated if the soil eroded. The school building and houses are about 20 meters from the river, he said.
The municipal government introduced measures to control the soil erosion by rerouting the river?s flow but it could only delay, not stop, the soil from eroding, Cantiller said.
