ILOILO CITY -- Media practitioners here took time out from news gathering and reporting to spend time with the women and youth offenders at the Iloilo City Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
For the seventh year, the Iloilo City Hall Press Corps (ICHPC) gathered in making the jailed minors and women feel the warmth of the Yuletide season.
The gift-giving activity and Christmas party with the youth inmates is the pet project of reporters covering City Hall.
“We must let them feel the essence of Christmas. Let us not isolate these boys and women (from the community) despite the offenses they committed,” said ICHPC president Lydia Pendon.
The ICHPC partied with 57 inmates. Games, fun, laughter and snacks were shared.
Most of the women inmates face charges for violation of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, illegal recruitment, frustrated murder, and other crimes. Theft is common among juvenile inmates.
Giveaways like personal hygiene stuffs and foods were given to each of the inmates courtesy of SM City-Iloilo, Unilever Philippines, Iloilo Korean Youth Association, and officials of the city government.
