MANILA, Philippines?President Benigno Aquino III, a 50-year-old bachelor, told reporters he would be taking up biking in 2011 to help him perform his official duties better.

?If there is a way to increase my output, hopefully I can find the energy to do that thing. To that extent, I will begin a regular exercise regimen. I?m taking up biking,? he said in an interview near Dr. Jose Rizal?s monument at the Rizal Park in Manila.

Before becoming president, he was an active participant in shooting sports but was also known to stay up late hanging out with friends.

His election in May has complicated his private life, with Mr. Aquino already breaking up with his girlfriend months ago.

He indicated that he would spend New Year?s Eve and 2011?s first weekend going through state documents, including yearend reports of various departments.

?The first plan is to go through the huge backlog of documents that I have to read. These were even increased by the yearend reports that have been submitted and I am paying attention to them,? he said. Reports from AFP and Norman Bordadora
