MANILA, Philippines?It?s a slam-dunk idea for God.
Catholic priests, playing in a team called ?Padres,? will square off with pro cagers in a charity game to raise funds for the printing and distribution of some 100,000 Bibles to indigent parishioners of a church in Pasay City.
The priests will go up against the team of hard-court icons Alvin Patrimonio, Johnny Abarrientos, Bobby Jose, Jerry Codińera, Nandy Garcia, Rodney Santos, Vergel Meneses, Mark Victoria, Renzy Bajar and Eric Gascon.
?Padres? is composed of Catholic priests Jerome Secillano, Steve Zabala, Aitoy Opiano, Ronald Macale, Marty Marcelo, Mark Munda, Armand Ichabod, Betbet Rabonza, Joey Sepe, Roger Solis and Japs Apun.
The fund-raiser, set on Sept. 9, 6 p.m. at Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City, was organized by the Manila Archdiocese biblical apostolate.
Archdiocesan biblical apostolate director Fr. Tony Navarette said proceeds of the charity basketball game would be used to print 100,000 copies of the Bible for distribution to indigent families who attend Mass at Sta. Clara de Montefalco Parish in Pasay City.
Ticket prices range from P100, P150 and P250. Navarette said funds raised would also be used for the programs and projects of the church.
Ringside and lower box spectators could win prizes during the half-time break.
