TROPICAL DEPRESSION ?Domeng? has intensified into a storm after it merged with a low pressure area that formed off Batanes, prompting the weather bureau to raise storm signals over 19 provinces in Bicol and Northern Luzon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) declared public storm Signal No. 2 in Cagayan, Babuyan Islands, Calayan Islands Isabela, and Batanes Group of Islands as storm Domeng continue on its path to north Luzon.

Signal No. 1 was declared in Nueva Ecija, Aurora,Quirino, Nueva Viscaya, Ifugao, Benguet, Mt. Province, Pangasinan, Kalinga, Abra, Apayao, La Union, and Ilocos Provinces.

According to Pagasa?s 5 p.m. bulletin Wednesday, Domeng, the fourth typhoon to enter the country this year, fused with a low pressure area that was formed off of Batanes a few days ago.

Pagasa said Domeng has increased its strength and speed as it continued to track northern Luzon, with a maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

The center was seen 430 km east of Batanes. The storm was moving westward at 19 kph.

Pagasa said the storm is expected to hit Northern Luzon today. It noted that the storm will be 40 km east of Batanes Thursday afternoon.
