MANILA, Philippines - After noting a peaceful commemoration of All Saints? Day on Sunday, the Philippine National Police said it will remain on alert for the surge of motorists and civilians returning to Metro Manila on Monday as the three-day weekend ends.
PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina said that the PNP will remain on heightened alert status to secure major transportation terminals as people are expected to flock to the Metro Manila.
Police will also be assisting in traffic management to help decongest major thoroughfares on Monday, Espina said.
Police noted a peaceful observance of All Saints? Day, despite the lingering problem of people attempting to sneak in illegal items in cemeteries.
As of 12 p.m Sunday., police confiscated a total of 63 bladed weapons, a toy gun, a tear gas, and 20 sets of gambling cards across Metro Manila from people going to cemeteries.
Espina said that apart from some traffic problems, there were no untoward incidents reported across Metro Manila.
A total of 4,825 Police Assistance Centers (PAC) were put up in public cemeteries, memorial parks, churches, highways, seaports, bus terminals and resorts in different locations nationwide.
