MANILA, Philippines? As of noon Saturday, the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council in Calabarzon could hardly cope with the number of families affected by floods caused by Storm Ondoy, with many residents trapped on their rooftops.
?Rescuers could not penetrate the area,? said Fred Bragas, council spokesperson for the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) area.
Floods reaching up to the roofs forced several families in Laguna to evacuate, while other families were trapped by waist-high waters in Cavite and waters up to the chest in a village in northern Quezon.
A landslide hit a village in Real town, also in northern Quezon.
A total of 1,821 passengers were stranded in ports in Calabarzon Region, Mindoro, Romblon and Bicol.
In Taysan town, Batangas, almost half of a road section was impassable after a landslide hit the area, said Von Nicasio, provincial fire chief. Marrah Erika Lesaba, Maricar P. Cinco, Delfin T. Mallari Jr., Inquirer Southern Luzon
