MANILA, Philippines? The National Bureau of Investigation Monday started its investigation of the leak about the breast augmentation procedure that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo reportedly underwent in a posh hospital in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
A senior NBI official said NBI agents went to Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Alabang and interviewed ?at least three medical staff.?
The official agreed to talk on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to share the details of the investigation with the media.
He said it was the Department of Justice that ordered the NBI to ?identify? the individuals who leaked the information to the media.
He, however, said it was not clear if the order directly came from acting Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera.
?The NBI was specifically tasked with identifying who could have leaked the medical records of the President or who could have provided the information to the media about the medical procedure that the President received,? the source said.
Another NBI official confirmed the Philippine Daily Inquirer source?s information, but he declined to provide details of the investigation.
The Inquirer repeatedly tried to get the reaction of NBI Director Nestor Mantaring, but his staff said he was at an ?important meeting.?
