MANILA, Philippines—The National Police Commission has formally recommended Deputy Director General Jesus Versoza to replace outgoing Philippine National Police Director General Avelino Razon Jr.
In a one-page resolution, the commission, chaired by Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno, recommended Versoza as he is the most senior police commissioned officer in the PNP’s seniority lineal list.
Versoza is the current deputy chief for administration of the PNP.
“The Commission, after review, finds no legal impediment to the designation of Versoza as the chief of the PNP and his promotion to police director general,” the resolution said.
The resolution was signed by Puno, vice chair Eduardo Escueta, and commissioners Luis Mario General and Razon on Thursday.
Razon will reach the compulsory retirement age of 56 on Sept. 27.
The Napolcom held an en banc session Thursday morning at its headquarters, after which the body decided to recommend Versoza to the post of PNP chief.
